2020 was meant to be the start of my campaign in the Mini challenge, however, unsurprising "rona" had different plans and I've had to postpone my entry until 2021... heavy shite.
I'm looking forward to 2020 passing quickly, I think like a lot of people are, in the mean time I'll be staying fit and practicing my lines on my sim until my next race.
2019 was short year as I had to sit out the first half of the season until I had sat my A-level exams. This meant I wasn't able to fight for a championship title, but I think I still manage to put in an impressive performance for the second half the season getting 6 podiums in 7 races with 1 pole position, one 1st, three 2nd places and two 3rd places, not to shabby.
2018 was a big step up into the VW Cup from the BMW Compact cup. It was more competitive being in a bigger and faster cars with stickier tyres. I gave myself a goal at the start of the year to get on the podium, and finish in the top 5 of the championship. I smashed my goal by finishing 2nd in the championship with two 1st, one 2nd and two 3rd places, with a couple of pole positions.
The BMW Compact Cup was my first season in a race car and it was a fantastic championship to adapt my abilities to a car. I started the season towards the back end of the grid simply due to lacking experience of where and what a clutch pedal does. However, after finding it, I learned a lot from these cars simplicity. They are slow but twitchy cars, and getting used to them was quite difficult. As the season progressed, I got faster and faster moving up to the sharp end of the grid, eventually getting onto the podium once, and a couple of top 5 finishes on a 30 car grid. It's not a win, but considering I had never even driven a car at the start of the season, I was pretty happy.
2016 was a season of driving between different categories. I swapped between the different engines of senior Rotax MAX and Senior IAME X30. With different engines meant different tyres and different styles of driving which helped evolve my abilities. I managed to win the Northern UK regional Rotax championship at the same time managing to get some podium finishes in the in the X30 class.
After getting over the first year of karting, I adopted a new approach for the 2015 campaign. I was really enjoying karting and was trying hard to improve. My approach get stuck in a bit more into battles and push more out of the kart in terms of laptime. I studied data a lot more and compared it with my team mates. This approach really helped as I managed to finish on the podium for the Scottish Junior championship and I also managed a heat win in the wet in a National championship round which I will admit made me feel like a million bucks.
After about three years of doing indoor karting, my dad asked me if I wanted to try outdoor karting which I immediately said yes to... cause you know... why would you say no. I tried it out, and to be honest I was awful to start off with. I spent more time going backwards then forwards but I was having fun doing it. I learnt a lot about driving in that first year and went from being the slowest on the grid to not the slowest on the grid, mission accomplished.
Somehow, at just the age of 3 years old, I managed to get a seat in a Willliam's F1 car at an car event in Scotland. As you can tell this was an extremely cool moment, I got to press all the buttons and smile for all the cameras. The only issue I had was the seat being a bit big, and the peddles were a bit far away.
